Provo City is looking for a Wastewater Systems Instrumentation Technician to ensure functionality of the Water Reclamation Plant equipment, instruments, and controls. This position performs the following duties: prevent/maintain, troubleshoot, calibrate, repair, and replace Process Control Systems, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) and distributed control systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), control and instrument loops, field instrumentation, chemical analysis systems, variable frequency drives, communication network systems, hazardous chemical distribution and detection systems, and human machine interface (HMI); clean and calibrate critical process control instrumentation (ultrasonic, radar, hydraulic, pneumatic, probes, and magnetic); repair all instrumentation and control systems (both mechanical and electronic); measure flow rates of chemicals and processes to ensure appropriate levels; adjust controls and settings of monitoring equipment; assist plant electrician with trouble-shooting and repair; analyze process control problems for new programs; design microprocessor and instrumentation control systems; code PC’s and Programable Logic Controllers (PLC’s) in various languages; compute system parameters and ranges; test new systems to ensure proper operation; assemble control panels and PLC base units, small instrumentation devices, etc.; install new instrumentation and control systems; preform start-up and testing of new equipment; organize control panels; label conductors and review electrical drawings; advise staff and engineers on the proper operation of new equipment; prepare documentation and schematics of plant; maintain records of plant instrumentation drawings and programming scripts; maintain critical inventory of instrumentation and control system spare parts; evaluate and specify instrumentation; perform basic electrical duties; assist other staff members as needed and perform other related duties as required.
- Required:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Four years of experience in maintaining, troubleshooting, calibrating, repairing and installing Process Control Systems (SCADA and DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), control and instrument loops, and field instrumentation; OR an Associate’s degree in industrial instrumentation or closely-related field and four years of experience with telemetry, microcircuits, PLC programming, remote sensing and operational systems, or other related field; OR an equivalent combination of job-related training and experience.
- A valid, lawful driver's license is required.
- Preferred:
- The following certifications are preferred
- Instrument Society of America
- Utah Plant Maintenance Technologist or Wastewater Treatment.
- Proficiency in the following is also preferred:
- Data communications systems
- Protocols and cabling, including wired and wireless network systems, radio telemetry, and MODBUS
- Programming of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Human-Machine Interface (HMI) computer workstations
- Work order and maintenance management systems
- Desktop business applications, including Excel, Word, and Wonderware
- 900 megahertz radios.
