Provo City is looking for a Pretreatment Coordinator to provide technical work in Food Service Establishments (FSE) and FOG program inspections and regulatory management in the Water Reclamation Plant. Essential Duties
  • Conduct scheduled and unscheduled inspections of Food Service Establishments (FSE), wastewater treatment plant, wastewater collection system and sewer lines
  • Enter tanks, sewer holes, and vaults to inspect, sample, and install and remove monitoring equipment
  • Collect and preserve field samples including greases/oils, , and Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) for laboratory analysis using 40 CFR 136 lab regulations
  • Measure field samples for pH
  • Use samples to create local limits
  • As needed issue violations, determine compliance schedule, and resolve non-compliance issues
  • Investigate complaints, problems, or potential violations regarding grease traps
  • Maintain remote sampling equipment
  • Summarize sample results for billing
  • Inspection of grease interceptors and traps, provide outreach and education on, and enforce the Fats, Oils, and Grease (FOG) program to eliminate or minimize sewer line buildup
  • Assist industries in identifying and handling hazardous materials in their waste streams
  • May perform limited residential wastewater inspection and educational outreach
  • Work with Environmental Laboratory Manager, Industrial Pretreatment Coordinator, and other city personnel to ensure the FOG program meets defined objectives
  • Assists in the development of the FSE and FOG program objectives
  • Develop and maintain documents and records to ensure FSE and FOG objectives and requirements are met
  • Develop inspection procedures and protocols
  • Develop standard operating procedures for the FSE and FOG program
  • Evaluate FOG and other discharges into sanitary sewer system
  • Conduct “hotspot” investigations to identify generation from Users
  • Coordinate with Collections to achieve common goals
  • Coordinate with City engineers to review construction drawings for sewer-related discharges and assist in determining modifications
  • Conduct wastewater review on business licenses, new construction, and remodels
  • Issue or reissue permits or other control measures
  • Maintain accurate computerized files, inspection reports, correspondence, and other related documents
  • Respond to state audits
  • Make presentations as needed
  • Assist with Industrial Pretreatment as necessary
  • Perform other related duties as required
  • Associate’s Degree in Biology, Chemistry or closely related field
  • Two (2) years in wastewater treatment
  • OR an equivalent combination of job-related education and experience [substituting each 1 year of post-secondary education/training for 6 months of experience
  • Valid, lawful Driver License
  • Must obtain Utah Grade II Wastewater Treatment Operator or Wastewater Collection System Operator Certificate within two testing periods after hire
  • Must obtain Utah Flagger Certification within 6 months after hire
