Under the direction of the Wastewater Collection-Stormwater Superintendent. This position leads an assigned crew in maintaining, repairing, and inspecting the stormwater and sewer collection systems. Assists Superintendent in planning, organizing, and assigning work as requested. Operates heavy equipment and hand tools. Maintains required certifications in sewer/stormwater collections.
- Leads in the safe removal of stormwater and sewer blockages, and follows a preventative maintenance program.
- Leads with the installation and/or repair of the stormwater and sewer pipelines and related
- structures.
- Operates JET-VAC combo truck, sweeper, CCTV equipment, backhoe, loader, skid steer, dump trucks, and other various heavy equipment and hand tools.
- Maintains and lubricates automotive and field equipment. Makes minor repairs as needed.
- Leads in the setup and execution of traffic control devices.
- Leads with the inspection of the stormwater and sewer collection systems with the use of CCTV equipment.
- Leads the cleaning, maintenance, operation, construction, and restoration of the stormwater and sewer collection systems as directed.
- Responds to customer requests.
- Understands operations of flood irrigation. May be required to work weekend and holidays during irrigation schedule.
- Responds to emergency calls on a 24-hour basis while on-call duty as specified in the Springville City Personnel Handbook.
- Leads confined entries and follows proper protocol.
- Leads and performs proper trenching and shoring when necessary.
- Leads other members of a crew in various work assignments.
- Follows the Springville City Public Works safety program.
- Works well with and assists other departments as needed.
- Various computer skills for daily, weekly, and monthly reports. (Excel, Word, Esri, etc.)
- Able to follow and implement instructions.
- Able to solve various problems/issues while in the field.
- Assumes responsibility for the department in the absence of the Superintendent.
- Maintains and promotes a positive work environment.
- Able to meet and communicate with inspectors and contractors.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
High school graduate or equivalent. Must have four (4) years of combined work experience in the operation and maintenance of Wastewater or Stormwater collection systems, or equivalent related underground utility experience.
Additional Desired Qualifications:
- Management skills including planning and organizing, problem analysis and decision-making, time management, leadership, and interpersonal sensitivity.
- Training and experience in trench excavation and shoring work practices and procedures.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to provide the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the essential functions of the job will be considered.
Certification Requirements:
- Utah Grade III or IV Unrestricted Certified Wastewater Collections Operator (Unrestricted, according to R317-10) within three (3) months of hire date.
- NASSCO certification within six (6) months of hire date.
- Valid Class A CDL with Tanker Endorsement within six (6) months of hire date.
- Traffic Control Supervisor Certificate within twelve (12) months of hire date.
Must be able to:
- Perform all the necessary repair and installation work on Wastewater/Stormwater pipelines.
- Lead a skilled work crew.
- Read and understand written and oral instructions.
- Be available for on-call status.
- Perform routine maintenance of pumps and motors.
- Work outdoors in all types of weather.
- Assist in preparing a year-to-year operations budget.
- Work well with the public while carrying out job functions.
- Work in all weather conditions associated with wastewater and stormwater.
- Lift to 75 pounds regularly, climb ladders, enter manholes, boxes, open trenches, and other underground utilities.
- Have enough physical strength and agility to perform required work.
