Full Job Description

Performs a variety of entry level semi-skilled and skilled duties related to the maintenance and repair of wastewater collection system. May perform as either a “Restricted” or “Unrestricted” operator based upon established “experience” guidelines.


Conducts daily manhole surveys to check for damaged lids and rings; operates a variety of hand and power tools and equipment as needed to install, maintain and repair manholes, grates, etc.; replaces or resets manholes as needed to bring them up to road grade; may perform as a safety flagman during highway operations. Travels district collection system routes to monitor line condition; observes system flow, takes flow meter readings and removes debris and obstructions to prevent line back-ups and property damage. Monitors work performed by contract line installation, contractors, maintenance and repair companies; assists contractors to identify and locate lines. Maintains complete and accurate records as required. Assists in the installation of pretreatment sampling equipment; accompanies pretreatment coordinator to assure proper safety to the sampling operations. Follows safety procedures and utilizes safe work practices in performing duties.


Performs line cleaning and flushing; operates heavy line cleaning equipment (combination jet/vacuum); may enter manholes to remove obstructions.
Operates and maintains sewer televising equipment.
Performs general plant maintenance and cleaning of vehicles and line equipment.

Qualifications

*Graduation from a standard senior high school or G.E.D.; AND
*One (1) year of general maintenance or construction experience; OR
*An equivalent combination of education and experience
Must be able to obtain a Wastewater Collection System Operator certification grade I within one year of hire date (or three testing periods).
Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Utah State Class B Commercial Driver’s License and needed endorsements (Tanker, Air Brakes).
Must be willing to work shift schedules, on-call and 24-hour standby.
Must obtain Flagman Traffic Control Certification within one year of hire date.
Must pass random alcohol and drug test.
