Water System Technician / Operator Trainee

Bear River Water Conservancy District helps provide safe and reliable drinking water to customer agencies and residents throughout Box Elder County. The District values professionalism, integrity, accountability, safety, and a positive team-oriented workplace.

The Water System Technician / Operator Trainee is an entry-level position that assists with the operation, maintenance, monitoring, and repair of the District's water systems. The selected candidate will work alongside experienced staff while learning all aspects of water system operations. Previous water system experience is preferred but not required.

• Assist with the operation and maintenance of wells, springs, pumping stations, meter stations, storage facilities, treatment plants, and other water system infrastructure
• Collect water quality samples and maintain required operational records
• Assist with regulatory reports and State drinking water compliance
• Respond to Blue Stakes utility locating requests
• Read and verify water meters
• Assist with installation, maintenance, and repair of meters and related equipment
• Interact professionally with customers, contractors, and partner agencies
• Maintain District facilities, grounds, vehicles, tools, and equipment
• Participate in on-the-job training, continuing education, and certification classes
• Participate in emergency response and after-hours call-outs as needed

• High school diploma or GED
• Valid Utah driver's license with an acceptable driving record
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Ability to safely lift and perform physical labor
• Basic computer skills
• Ability to obtain and maintain applicable Utah Water Operator Certification within the timeframe established by the District
• Dependability, professionalism, integrity, and a strong work ethic
• Willingness to learn, accept coaching, and contribute to a close-knit team
• Ability to respond and be on location within 45 minutes of District infrastructure while on call

• Experience in construction, farming, irrigation, mechanics, utilities, equipment operation, plumbing, or related trades
• Experience using Microsoft Excel and other computer software
• Basic knowledge of pumps, electrical systems, mechanical equipment, and maintenance practices
• Previous water system, public works, agricultural, or utility experience

• Outdoor work in varying weather conditions
• Physical labor, lifting, and equipment maintenance
• Work at wells, springs, pumping stations, treatment plants, storage facilities, and meter stations
• Emergency response and after-hours call-outs as needed
• Six-month probationary period

Pay ranges from $25.00 to $28.00 per hour, depending on experience. Employer-paid benefits for employees and families include health insurance, HSA contributions, dental insurance, basic life insurance, long-term disability, and workers' compensation.
