Awards & Scholarships

DEADLINE: December 19th, 2019



Each year at RWAU’s Annual Conference in St. George, Utah, the Association presents awards to
member systems, as well as system personnel who have done an outstanding job of running their
water or wastewater system. Most awards are given based on performance in the 2019 calendar
year.

This is your chance to nominate someone who deserves an
RWAU Award for their hard work…even if it’s you!

INDIVIDUAL AWARDS:
  • OFFICE PERSONNEL PERSON OF THE YEAR - Based on accomplishments, overall on-the-job performance, and involvement with RWAU for a Town Clerk, City Recorder, Treasurer, Manager, Administrator, etc.
  • ELECTED/APPOINTED OFFICIAL OF THE YEAR Based on accomplishments, overall on-the-job performance, and involvement with RWAU for Mayors, Board Chair, Councilperson, Board Member etc. (either elected or appointed.)
  • OUTSTANDING SERVICE BY A WATER OPERATOR Based on long-term, outstanding on-the-job performance (10+ years, distribution or treatment)
  • OUTSTANDING SERVICE BY A WASTEWATER OPERATOR Based on long-term, outstanding on-the-job performance (10+ years.)
  • WATER OPERATOR OF THE YEAR Based on extraordinary accomplishments of an individual operator during 2019 who is directly or indirectly responsible for the day-to-day O&M of a water system (distribution or treatment).
  • WASTEWATER OPERATOR OF THE YEAR Based on extraordinary accomplishments of an individual operator during 2019 who is directly or indirectly responsible for the day-to-day O&M of a wastewater system.

Individual Award Criteria Considered (but not limited to):
  • System/Company is a current RWAU member in good standing.
  • Supports RWAU Conferences, Seminars, Trainings, and/or serves on RWAU Committees.
  • Friendly, helpful attitude, knowledgeable and efficient on related job duties.
  • Eager to keep System in compliance with Utah State Regulations.
  • Eager to keep System Operator certified to level of system.
  • Able to initiate and/or oversee special projects in helping improve the system and its service to its customers.
  • Great contributions to Water and/or WW fields locally and/or nationally.

SYSTEM AWARDS:
  • Most Improved Water System Based on accomplishments and/or improvements of a water system during 2018
  • Most Improved Wastewater System Based on accomplishments and/or improvements of a wastewater system during 2018
  • Outstanding Water Service to Customers Based on long-term performance (15 + years.)
  • Outstanding Wastewater Service to Customers Based on long-term performance (15 + years.)
  • Source Water Protection Award
  • Supporting Member Over 10,000 Award Based on long term performance (3 + years) for nonvoting members.
  • Supporting Member Under 10,000 Award Based on long-term performance (3 + years) for nonvoting members.
  • Associate Member of the Year Based on years exhibiting, RWAU magazine advertising, Conference involvement and other above-and-beyond activities with RWAU.
System Award Criteria Considered (but not limited to):
  • System/Company is a current RWAU member in good standing and supports RWAU Conferences/Seminars/Trainings (instructs, consecutive years attending or vending) and/or serves on RWAU Committees.
  • Extraordinary public relations efforts (articles, publications, etc.)
  • Maintains System compliance with Utah State Regulations.
  • Relationship with regulatory agencies.
  • Able to initiate and/or oversee special projects in helping improve the system and its service to its customers.
  • Great contributions to Water and/or WW fields locally and/or nationally.

University Scholarships


Who is Eligible?

Eligibility for Scholarships is limited to dependents of full-time employees, Board members or Council members of RWAU member systems. RWAU Board and Staff members are not eligible.

How Much Money is Available?

Two scholarships of $1,500 are open to apply for. The two winners will be required to provide proof of full-time enrollment each semester in order to receive the award money. The payment is split into two installments of $750.

Apprenticeship Program Scholarships


Each year at RWAU’s Annual Conference in Saint George, RWAU awards one individual with a full-ride scholarship for the Apprenticeship Program. Awarding is based on eligibility and upon enrollment of the program.

Applicant Requirements
  • Must be employed by a member system, or are in the process of becoming employed with a water or wastewater member system.
  • The employer must agree to have you, their employee, enroll as an apprentice
  • Must be eligible to enroll in the apprenticeship program (eligibility requirements can be found on the apprenticeship program page, here.

What Does it Cover?
  • 100% of all required in-class training registrations will be covered by RWAU (This could be registration to a one-day training, a certification, or conference attendance. Anything required by the apprenticeship program)
  • 100% of any required certification exam fee, for the 1st-attempt, will be covered by RWAU
    • For example, if the apprentice needs to get certified as an operator, RWAU would pay 100% of the exam fee.
  • 100% of any and all required material for the apprenticeship program, will be covered by RWAU
    • This includes all study guides, textbooks, and other program materials.
What Isn't Covered?
  • Travel costs or travel reimbursements
  • Reimbursements for missed work hours
