The Water Distribution Operator I is a full-time, entry-level position responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of the culinary water distribution system to ensure safe and efficient delivery of drinking water to residential and commercial customers.
- Maintain, repair, and construct culinary water systems
- Operate maintenance and construction tools and equipment
- Collect water samples and inspect new construction
- Operate and maintain wells, reservoirs, meters, valves, and hydrants
- Locate underground utilities and identify leaks
- Perform emergency repairs as needed
- Read maps, blueprints, and GIS data
- Perform on-call duties with a 30-minute response time when scheduled
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Valid driver license
- Ability to obtain CDL Class A within 6 months of hire
- Ability to obtain Grade I Water Distribution Operator certification within 1 year
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to operate field tools and equipment
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions
- Outdoor work in heat, cold, wind, and precipitation
- Frequent lifting and moving objects up to 50 pounds
- Occasional lifting up to 70 pounds
- Regular standing, walking, climbing, bending, and kneeling
- Exposure to varying noise levels and outdoor environmental conditions
Starting pay is $19.43 – $29.15 per hour depending on qualifications and experience. Benefits include medical, dental, retirement through URS, vacation, and sick leave. Employment is subject to passing a mandatory pre-employment drug test.
