The City of Washington Terrace is hiring a Water Operator/Utility Service Worker I, II or III. The level of hire will depend on the applicant’s education, certifications, and experience. This full-time classified position works under the direction of the Public Works Director and Assistant Public Works Director.
The successful applicant will have the opportunity to learn and perform a variety of skilled duties related to the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of utility service systems. Work includes streets, water transmission and distribution, wastewater collection, storm water control, City roads, parks, buildings, and other City facilities.
- Perform construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of utility service systems
- Work with water transmission and distribution systems
- Support wastewater collection and storm water control systems
- Repair and maintain City roads, parks, buildings, water, storm water, and sewer systems
- Participate in snow removal duties
- Receive project assignments and completion schedules and complete projects as directed
- Cross train in multiple Public Works areas, including water, sewer, storm water, streets, buildings, and equipment
- Serve duty time and on-call duty
- Respond to emergency situations and determine the appropriate course of action
- High school diploma or GED
- Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), or ability to obtain the license within 6 months
- Ability to obtain, at minimum, Water Distribution I and Certified Flagger certifications within one year
- Ability to perform tasks completely and accurately
- Demonstrated timeliness and follow-through on duties and assignments
- Ability to work well with others
- Reliability and good attendance
- Positive work attitude and willingness to take initiative
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screen
- Utility Service Worker I: $19.97–$29.76/hour; high school diploma or GED; 0–2 years of experience; Class B CDL; Water Distribution I; Certified Flagger
- Utility Service Worker II: $22.68–$32.98/hour; high school diploma or GED; 3 years of experience; Class B CDL; Water Distribution II; Wastewater Collection I; Certified Flagger
- Utility Service Worker III: $24.69–$35.59/hour; high school diploma or GED; 5 years of experience; Class B CDL; Water Distribution III; Wastewater Collection II; Back Flow Certification; Certified Flagger
Level of hire will depend on education, certifications, and experience.
- Ability to work outside in extreme heat and cold

Pay ranges from $19.97 to $35.59 per hour depending on the position level and qualifications. Full-time benefits include medical, dental, Utah Retirement System retirement, holidays, vacation, and sick leave. Eligible employees may also receive comp time. The City sponsors required certifications for Utility Service Worker I, II, and III.
