Eagle Mountain City is one of Utah's rapidly growing communities. The City's wastewater team maintains critical treatment and collection infrastructure while supporting reliable utility service, regulatory compliance, and continued community growth.
The Wastewater Maintenance Operator I-III performs progressively responsible work supporting Eagle Mountain City's wastewater treatment and collection systems. Duties include treatment facility operation, collection system maintenance, sewer cleaning and inspection, emergency response, equipment operation, and infrastructure repair.
Placement at Level I, II, or III is based on experience, qualifications, and applicable certifications.
- Operate and maintain wastewater treatment and collection system infrastructure
- Perform maintenance on clarifiers, pumps, motors, blowers, generators, and disinfection equipment
- Operate high-velocity jet trucks to clean and maintain wastewater lines
- Operate vacuum trucks and related equipment during utility repairs and emergencies
- Use CCTV inspection equipment to evaluate sewer mains and lift station systems
- Locate and identify sewer line leaks, obstructions, and maintenance needs
- Perform dye testing and other diagnostic procedures
- Maintain and repair specialized wastewater equipment
- Respond to sewer breaks, backups, and other emergency situations
- Perform confined-space entry and collection system maintenance
- Operate heavy equipment, pumps, saws, compressors, and other maintenance tools
- Support permit compliance and other Public Utilities Division responsibilities
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Knowledge of wastewater collection and treatment operations appropriate to the assigned level
- Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and heavy equipment
- Knowledge of trench work, pipe fitting, pumping systems, and wastewater infrastructure
- Understanding of OSHA safety standards and confined-space procedures
- Ability to respond to emergency and unusual situations
- Ability to work effectively around wastewater, chemicals, traffic, machinery, and other utility hazards
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Operator I: Entry-level opportunity supporting wastewater treatment and collection system operations
- Operator II: Increased responsibility based on experience, training, and certification
- Operator III: Journey-level duties with greater independence and responsibility, including guidance and direction to lower-level operators during training or assigned projects
- Outdoor work in changing and seasonal weather conditions
- Regular walking, standing, stooping, reaching, lifting, and physical labor
- Potential exposure to wastewater, industrial waste, chemicals, and biological hazards
- Work around pumps, motors, heavy equipment, and moving machinery
- Work in public rights-of-way and around traffic
- Confined-space operations
- Rotating weekend, holiday, and on-call assignments as required
