The Water Systems Operator I performs semi-skilled work involving the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of Farmington City's water distribution system. The position supports daily operations, water quality monitoring, emergency response, equipment operation, and utility maintenance under the direction of the Water Superintendent. fileciteturn17file0
- Install, inspect, maintain, and repair water mains, service lines, meters, valves, and fire hydrants
- Locate leaks, valves, and underground utilities
- Read meters, perform re-reads, and complete basic meter repairs
- Monitor storage tanks, wells, and telemetry equipment
- Collect water samples and perform chlorine, fluoride, and flow testing
- Assist with pump maintenance and repairs
- Operate dump trucks, backhoes, trenchers, snowplows, and other heavy equipment
- Perform excavation, trenching, and surface restoration
- Set up traffic control and work zone safety devices
- Support other Public Works divisions as needed
- Maintain tools, vehicles, and equipment
- Participate in a rotating on-call schedule for after-hours emergencies
- High school diploma or GED
- One year of experience in construction, maintenance, or water distribution work
- Valid Utah Driver License
- Utah CDL within six months of hire
- Level 4 Water Systems Operator Certification within six months
- Forklift Certification within one year
- Flagger Certification within one year
- Ability to read maps, blueprints, and utility records
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Ability to safely operate heavy equipment and utility tools
- Outdoor work in extreme weather conditions
- Frequent lifting of 50 pounds and occasional lifting up to 100 pounds
- Work in trenches, excavations, and confined spaces
- Exposure to traffic, noise, dust, chemicals, and heavy equipment
- Physically demanding utility construction and maintenance work
