Job Description

Highlands Water Company is seeking a full-time Certified Water Operator Grade 1 or 2 to perform skilled work related to the construction, installation, safety, operation, maintenance, monitoring, and repair of the company's water system.

Previous water system experience is preferred. The position requires a dependable and self-motivated individual who can work independently, respond to after-hours needs, and support water infrastructure throughout Mountain Green. fb829466-0dfc-4b28-821a-4a3dee8bdc3c.docx

What You Will Do
  • Operate and maintain wells, springs, pumping stations, meter stations, storage facilities, treatment plants, and other water system infrastructure
  • Collect water quality samples and maintain required operational records
  • Assist with regulatory reports and State drinking water compliance
  • Respond to Blue Stakes utility locating requests
  • Read and verify water meters
  • Assist with installation, maintenance, and repair of meters and related equipment
  • Interact professionally with customers, contractors, and partner agencies
  • Maintain water facilities, grounds, vehicles, tools, and equipment
  • Participate in on-the-job training, continuing education, and certification classes
  • Participate in emergency response and after-hours call-outs
  • Hike or snowshoe to inspect and maintain remote infrastructure
  • Operate equipment and vehicles in off-road and winter conditions as needed
What You Will Bring
  • High school diploma or GED
  • At least one year of general work experience performing related duties or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Valid Utah driver's license with an acceptable driving record
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to safely lift and perform physical labor
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to obtain and maintain applicable Utah Water Operator Certification
  • Dependability, professionalism, integrity, and a strong work ethic
  • Willingness to learn, accept coaching, and contribute to a close-knit team
  • Ability to respond and be on location within 60 minutes of Mountain Green while on call
  • Ability to follow safe work standards when entering vaults and confined spaces
  • Ability to work independently and remain self-motivated
Preferred Experience
  • Construction, irrigation, mechanical, utility, equipment operation, plumbing, or related trade experience
  • Previous water system, public works, or utility experience
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel and other computer software
  • Basic knowledge of pumps, electrical systems, mechanical equipment, and maintenance practices
  • Tractor or backhoe experience
  • Off-road driving and snowmobile experience
Work Environment
  • Outdoor work in varying weather conditions
  • Physical labor, lifting, and equipment maintenance
  • Work in PRV vaults and other confined spaces
  • Hiking and snowshoeing to remote water infrastructure
  • Emergency response and after-hours call-outs
  • On-call rotation including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
  • Six-month probationary period
Compensation & Benefits

Pay is negotiable based on experience and qualifications. The position is scheduled for 40 or more hours per week, Monday through Friday, with participation in the on-call rotation required.
