Water & Wastewater Operator / Maintenance Technician

Hinckley Town is seeking a motivated and dependable individual to join its team as a Water & Wastewater Operator / Maintenance Technician. This position is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and improvement of the Town’s water and wastewater systems, as well as general municipal maintenance duties.

This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys a variety of hands-on work, takes pride in serving the community, and is interested in developing specialized certifications in water and wastewater operations.

The Water & Wastewater Operator / Maintenance Technician performs operational and maintenance duties for Hinckley Town’s drinking water, water distribution, wastewater treatment, and collection systems while also assisting with roads, parks, public grounds, Town buildings, facilities, and other municipal services.

• Operate, monitor, maintain, and repair municipal drinking water treatment facilities
• Maintain and oversee water distribution infrastructure
• Operate, manage, and maintain wastewater treatment and collection systems
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on equipment and facilities
• Maintain roads, rights-of-way, parks, public grounds, Town buildings, shops, and facilities
• Assist with landscaping, plumbing, construction, and related public works activities
• Operate various equipment, vehicles, and snowplows
• Support animal control and other municipal service functions as assigned
• Respond to emergencies and after-hours operational needs when required

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work in varying weather conditions
• Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn
• Valid driver’s license
• Must live within 15 minutes of Hinckley Town

Current certifications are preferred but not required. Successful candidates will be expected to obtain:

• Commercial Driver License (CDL)
• Water Distribution Operator Grade D1
• Water Treatment Operator Grade T1
• Cross-Connection Control Program Administrator Certification
• Small Lagoon Wastewater Operator Certification

This position includes physically demanding outdoor work in varying weather conditions. The employee will perform a variety of hands-on water, wastewater, public works, maintenance, and municipal service duties and may be required to respond to emergencies and after-hours operational needs.

The starting wage is $28.00 per hour, with additional pay increases available upon obtaining required certifications.
