The Town of Brian Head is seeking a skilled and motivated Public Works Crew Lead to join our Public Works Department.
This position serves as a working foreman, providing daily supervision over assigned crews and ensuring high-quality construction, installation, and maintenance of the Town’s public infrastructure — including streets, water, wastewater, parks, trails, and snow removal operations.
Under the direction of the Public Works Director, the Crew Lead is responsible for coordinating staff, managing project timelines, and maintaining safety and operational standards across all work assignments. The role combines leadership, hands-on work, and technical skill to help keep our mountain community operating smoothly year-round.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a working foreman supervising Public Works Technicians (Levels I–III), seasonal, and part-time laborers.
- Assign daily work and monitor performance to ensure quality, safety, and efficiency.
- Oversee construction and maintenance projects involving streets, water, sewer, parks, and trails.
- Act as shift lead during snow removal operations, including coordination of plow crews and equipment.
- Operate a variety of heavy equipment including front-end loaders, backhoes, excavators, and 10-wheel trucks.
- Conduct job site inspections and safety reviews; recommend operational improvements.
- Maintain field records, material inventories, and routine reports.
- Train crew members in equipment operation, maintenance, and safety protocols.
- Ensure compliance with Town safety policies, procedures, and Public Works standards.
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduation from high school or equivalent.
- One (1) year of specialized technical or vocational training.
- Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in construction or public works operations, including project supervision or lead responsibilities.
- Must possess State of Utah Water Distribution and Sewer Collection certifications.
- Must hold a Commercial Class A CDL.
- Ability to lift 50–75 pounds and perform heavy physical labor.
- Must be willing to work on-call and 24-hour standby, including snow operations.
