Job Summary
Brian Head Town is seeking a Public Works Tech 1-3 to support essential public infrastructure and maintenance operations. This role includes work across streets, water, sewer, trails, parks, facilities, vehicles, and equipment, and may require work in extreme weather conditions, on-call duty, and 24-hour standby.
Key Responsibilities

Streets

  • Receive project assignments and complete work as directed by the supervisor using assigned equipment, materials, and manpower.
  • Operate heavy equipment such as single and tandem axle dump trucks, road graders, front-end loaders, backhoes, bucket trucks, snow plows, and sanders.
  • Perform street maintenance and road work including hauling, plowing, patching potholes, transporting road materials, cement work, curbs, gutter work, and roadway maintenance.
  • Participate in work site safety procedures, including barricades, signs, signaling equipment, and flagging assignments.

Water

  • Operate backhoe and trenching equipment for installation and repair of water service connections, water lines, meters, hydrants, and mains.
  • Clean and maintain storage tanks, conduct water sampling, and read residential and commercial water meters.
  • Install new water lines, build meter boxes, and adjust existing boxes as needed.
  • Use and maintain hand tools and power equipment such as jack hammers, rollers, compressors, packing machines, threading machines, tapping machines, and tampers.

Sewer / General Public Works

  • Perform sewer collection system maintenance and repairs, install sewer mains, tap mains for service connections, and repair leaks.
  • Inspect manholes and sewer lines and open clogged sewer lines using pipe cleaning equipment.
  • Maintain and service town-owned facilities, vehicles, equipment, trails, and parks.
  • Follow Town of Brian Head and Public Works policies, procedures, and safety manuals, and assist with other town projects as needed.
Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent.
  • Sufficient experience and training to demonstrate aptitude or ability to perform the assigned duties.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Other Skills and Training

  • Must possess a Commercial Class B driver’s license or obtain one within 6 months of hire.
  • Must be able to lift 50-75 pounds and perform heavy physical labor.
  • Must be willing to work on-call and 24-hour standby.
Special Qualifications
  • Good knowledge of construction practices, tools, and equipment.
  • Ability to adapt to varying work assignments.
  • Must obtain State of Utah Level 1 Water Distribution and Level 1 Wastewater Collection certifications within 1 year.
  • Must become Flagger certified within 6 months of hire.
