Job Summary
Fruit Heights City is seeking a dependable and motivated Laborer to support Public Works operations. This position performs a variety of manual labor and equipment operation tasks related to road maintenance, utilities, facilities, and seasonal operations. Duties vary daily and require flexibility, physical endurance, and the ability to safely operate tools, vehicles, and equipment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform general labor tasks including shoveling, digging, lifting, hauling, and site cleanup.
  • Perform vegetation management including weed eating, mowing, trimming, and general grounds maintenance.
  • Assist with and perform road maintenance such as asphalt patching, sidewalk repair or replacement, street signage, barricading, and traffic control.
  • Operate a variety of equipment including excavators, loaders, skid steers, and compactors, with training provided as needed.
  • Assist with utility work and perform blue staking and utility locating.
  • Perform snow removal operations including snowplowing and salting during winter months as needed.
  • Assist with building and facility maintenance including minor repairs, cleaning, painting, and upkeep.
  • Respond to after-hours callouts and emergency situations as required.
  • Follow City safety policies, OSHA standards, and applicable regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within six months of hire.
  • Ability to pass a background check and pre-employment drug screening.
  • Ability to obtain Distribution System Operator Grade 4 certification within a reasonable timeframe as determined by the City.
  • Experience in construction, public works, landscaping, or a related field is a plus.
Knowledge / Skills
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and heavy equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of construction, maintenance, and utility work is preferred.
  • Ability to follow instructions, work independently, and as part of a team.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn new skills.
  • Ability to interact professionally with residents and the public.
  • Repair of small motors and vehicle maintenance experience is helpful.

Work Schedule
  • Regular hours are Monday - Thursday, 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or as assigned by the Public Works Director.
  • On-call duty is required, including response to after-hours emergencies, snow events, and utility issues.
  • Nights, weekends, and holidays may be required as operational needs dictate.
