Full Job Description

The assistant public works director will work closely with the current director in overseeing the planning, direction, and coordination of essential public services, monitoring and upkeep of waterlines, ensuring the maintenance and development of critical infrastructure, and fostering strong relationship with the community.
This a long-term position after proper training and certification. Pay will be augmented with experience and certification levels. The position will stay open until filled.

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Planning, organizing and supervising all activities within the Public Works Department, including areas such as streets, water, wastewater, storm drainage, park, facilities and potentially other areas depending on the municipality’s structure.
  • Coordinating and collaborating with other city departments, elected officials, contractors, and community stakeholders to achieve city goals and address community needs.
  • Operate equipment efficiently when needed (Backhoe, Track hoe, Loader, Jetter, Vac Trailer, Plow Truck, Tractor with various attachments, etc.)
  • Ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to public works projects and services.
  • Take proper water samples and testing as required by Rural Water and the State of Utah Cross Connection, drinking water distribution 1, and small system lagoon waster water certification will be needed.
  • Perform installation, cleaning, operation, maintenance and repair of Myton Water systems and supply, transmission and distribution systems.
  • Able to read water meters using the current reading system and able to report the water meter readings to the Myton clerk in a timely manner.
  • Communicate effectively with the public and media regarding public works activities, projects, and potential service disruptions.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Ability to perform strenuous manual labor for an extended period of time.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Have general knowledge of safety and procedures and willing to.
  • Ability to learn and follow the compliance program for water testing on time and with accuracy.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have High School Diploma or GED and/or at least 18 years of age.
  • Valid Utah Driver’s License and Clean driving record, Preference for CDL.
  • Must be able to pass criminal background check and pre-employment drug test.
  • Must be certified by Utah State as a Water System Operator or become certified within 12 months of the date hired.
  • OSHA and State Law Knowledge.
  • Must live in close proximity to Myton City limits.
