Position Summary

The Watermaster is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and monitoring of the New Harmony community water system (located between Exit 36 and Exit 40 on I-15), ensuring a reliable supply of safe drinking water in compliance with all state and federal regulations. This position involves hands-on field work, system inspections, water quality sampling, recordkeeping, and communication with the Board, customers, and regulatory agencies.
Preference is that applicants live in or near the New Harmony area.

Key Responsibilities

System Operation & Maintenance

  • Operate and monitor wells, pumps, storage tanks, valves, and distribution lines.
    Record daily water production, system pressures, and tank levels.
  • Adjust and maintain flow controls, chemical treatment systems, and pressure reducing valves.
  • Perfom routine inspections and preventive maintenance on water system components and support equipment.
  • Identify leaks, breaks, or system issues and coordinate or perform repairs.

Water Quality & Compliance

  • Collect and submit water samples per Utah Division of Drinking Water requirements.
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable state and federal drinking water standards. Maintain updated operational logs, sampling records, and reporting documentation.

Administrative & Reporting

  • Prepare monthly reports for the President, including water usage, production, and system performance.
  • Maintain accurate records of meter readings, usage data, and system maintenance activities.
  • Coordinate with certified operators, contractors, and regulatory inspectors as needed.
  • Assist in developing system maps, maintenance schedules, and emergency response plans.
  • Order supplies/materials as required to maintain shop stockage levels.

Customer & Community Relations

  • Respond to customer inquiries and service requests professionally and promptly.
  • Provide on-site support for property owners, contractors, and developers as needed.
  • Participate in community meetings when requested to provide operational updates.
Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Preferred experience in water system operations, utility maintenance, or a related field.
  • Experience in rural utility management or small system operations is desirable.

Licenses & Certifications

  • Current Utah State Drinking Water Distribution System Certification (Grade 1 or higher) or acquired within 6 months of hire.
  • Valid Utah driver’s license and clean driving record.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of basic water system hydraulics, pumps, valves, and controls.
  • Ability to read and interpret utility maps, schematics, and meter data.
  • Familiarity with Utah Division of Drinking Water compliance requirements.
  • Strong recordkeeping and reporting skills.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and respond to emergencies.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills with residents and officials.
