Murray City provides essential public services and maintains critical wastewater infrastructure for the community. The Wastewater Department supports sanitary sewer system maintenance, emergency response, pump station operations, and public infrastructure reliability.
The Wastewater Tech I, II, or III performs a variety of unskilled, semi-skilled, and skilled maintenance work on Murray City’s sanitary sewer system. The position level will be determined based on experience, certifications, and qualifications.
- Perform general maintenance and construction work on the sanitary sewer system
- Use hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment
- Assist with high-pressure jet machine, sewer rodder, and CCTV equipment operations
- Locate manholes, sewer clean-outs, and main sewer lines
- Assist with flow and strength measuring devices
- Maintain pump stations and surrounding grounds
- Follow Murray City safety rules and regulations
- Respond to emergency call-outs as required
- Minimum age of 18 for Wastewater Tech I
- Six months of construction or laborer experience for Wastewater Tech I
- Experience as a Wastewater Technician or equivalent construction experience for higher levels
- Utah Commercial Driver License or ability to obtain required license
- Wastewater Collections System Operator certification or ability to obtain required certification
- Flag Person Certification and Traffic Control Technician Certification as required by level
- SCADA and telemetering familiarity for Wastewater Tech III
- Ability to respond to emergency call-outs year-round
- Field work on sanitary sewer infrastructure
- Emergency response during any time of day and in all weather conditions
- Use of wastewater maintenance equipment and utility tools
- On-call response requirements, including 30-minute response for higher levels
- Work around pump stations, sewer lines, manholes, and collection system infrastructure
Pay ranges from $21.60 – $39.18 per hour depending on position level and qualifications. Benefits include Utah Retirement System pension, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, vacation, sick leave, 15 paid holidays, tuition reimbursement, and an employee down payment assistance program.
