Steven Edward Clyde
The Rural Water Association of Utah joins the state’s water community in honoring a life dedicated to water stewardship, public service, and the people of Utah.
Steven Edward Clyde was more than one of Utah’s most respected water attorneys—he was a trusted advisor, a thoughtful leader, and a lifelong advocate for the responsible stewardship of Utah’s water resources. Throughout his distinguished career, Steve represented farmers, ranchers, irrigation companies, and water districts across the state, helping shape policies that balanced the needs of growing communities with the protection of one of Utah’s most valuable resources.
As General Counsel for the Central Utah Water Conservancy District for 32 years, Steve played a significant role in water projects and legislative efforts that continue to influence Utah today. He also served on the State of Utah’s Water Task Force and contributed to legislation that modernized Utah water law to better address drought, increasing demand, and the challenges facing the Great Salt Lake.
Steve’s impact extended well beyond his legal work. He was deeply committed to sharing his knowledge and mentoring future professionals through his service at the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law. He served as an adjunct professor and member of the college’s Board of Trustees and was recognized as its Alumnus of the Year in 2020.
Those who worked with Steve knew him not only for his legal expertise, but also for his integrity, professionalism, and ability to thoughtfully navigate complex water issues. His influence can be seen in the laws, partnerships, and projects that continue to serve water users and communities throughout Utah.
The Rural Water Association of Utah extends its sincere condolences to Steve’s family, friends, and colleagues. His contributions to Utah’s water community leave a lasting legacy, and he will be remembered with gratitude and respect.
