Wastewater Collections Operator Apprentice - IV

Provo City is seeking a full-time Wastewater Collections Operator to perform maintenance work for the City's wastewater collection system.

This position operates equipment used to clean, inspect, maintain, and repair sewer lines and related areas of the sewer and wastewater collection system. The position may be filled at the Apprentice, Level I, Level II, Level III, or Level IV classification based on the selected applicant's experience, certifications, and qualifications.

• Operate power rodding equipment and high-pressure jet-vac equipment to clear sewer lines, ditches, and culverts
• Operate closed-circuit television viewing and sealing equipment to detect leaks and obstructions in sewer mains and laterals
• Seal leaks using packing units
• Locate manholes, sewer cleanouts, and main sewer lines using photographs, metal detectors, maps, and related resources
• Place traffic cones, signs, and barricades to protect employees and members of the public
• Maintain pump stations and surrounding grounds
• Clear manholes, catch basins, and surrounding work areas
• Assist with general construction projects, including raising and lowering manholes to grade
• Assist with minor maintenance and repair of equipment
• Support other employees and operational teams as needed
• Perform other related duties as assigned
• Perform duties with progressively greater independence and supervisory responsibility at higher classification levels

• High school diploma or equivalent GED
• Valid and lawful Class B Commercial Driver License
• Valid flagger certificate

The Apprentice classification may obtain the required Class B Commercial Driver License and flagger certificate within the first six months of employment.

• One year of experience in general construction, maintenance, a semi-skilled craft or trade, or other work demonstrating mechanical aptitude

• Meet all general position requirements
• One year of professional water or wastewater operator experience
• Valid and lawful Class B Commercial Driver License
• Grade I Wastewater Operator certificate
• Valid flagger certificate

• Meet all general position requirements
• Grade II Wastewater Operator certificate
• Two years of water or wastewater operator experience

• Meet all general position requirements
• Grade III Wastewater Operator certificate
• Three years of water or wastewater operator experience

• Meet all general position requirements
• Four years of experience working on active water resources projects
• Completion of applicable cross-training and advanced leadership courses
• Utah Wastewater Restricted Operator Grade IV Certificate

• Operate sewer cleaning, inspection, maintenance, and repair equipment
• Work around wastewater collection infrastructure, pump stations, manholes, sewer mains, laterals, ditches, and culverts
• Perform general construction and equipment maintenance duties
• Set up traffic-control devices in public work areas
• Work a four-day, ten-hour schedule
• Perform increasingly independent and supervisory duties at higher classification levels

The hourly pay range for this position is $24.74 to $44.63, depending on the applicant's experience, certifications, qualifications, and placement level.
