The Wastewater Operator reports to the Wastewater Division Manager and performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled maintenance work on the sanitary sewer and collection systems.
Maintain Sewage System
- Install, operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair sewage systems and equipment
- Perform scheduled maintenance and inspections
- Maintain pump station buildings and grounds
- Operate generators and engines
- Maintain logs and records
- Respond to alarms and emergencies (on-call)
Maintain Sewer Collection Systems
- Repair and replace sewer lines
- Identify and evaluate system issues
- Perform excavation and restoration
- Clean and inspect pipelines regularly
Monitoring and Sampling
- Install and program flow meters
- Collect and verify data
- Manage sampling equipment
- Prepare reports for billing and compliance
- High school diploma or GED
- Wastewater certification Grade II (or obtain within 1 year)
- NIMS certification (or obtain within 1 year)
- CDL Class A with tanker endorsement within 1 year
- Knowledge of piping systems and hydraulics
- Operation of heavy equipment
- Equipment maintenance and repair
- Communication and documentation skills
Work includes lifting up to 80 pounds, operating equipment, working outdoors, exposure to hazardous environments, and confined space entry. Noise levels vary from moderate to loud.
