Vineyard City is one of Utah's fastest-growing communities. The Environmental Utilities Division maintains and improves the City's water and wastewater infrastructure while supporting safe, efficient, and reliable utility services for residents and businesses.
Vineyard City is seeking two Environmental Utilities Operators, with one position specializing in water and the other in wastewater. Operators support water distribution, treatment, quality control, wastewater collection, system maintenance, compliance, and the continued development of essential City infrastructure.
The position may be filled at Level I, II, or III based on qualifications, experience, and applicable certifications.
- Monitor the wastewater collection system and inspect, survey, and repair manholes
- Clear sewer obstructions and operate heavy equipment used for system maintenance
- Collect mapping data for underground utilities
- Clean and flush utility lines and maintain applicable tools and equipment
- Inspect, operate, test, and maintain water and wastewater pumping equipment and facilities
- Maintain pipe systems, chemical feed systems, telemetry systems, and related equipment
- Operate and maintain pressurized irrigation systems, including pumps, wells, valves, and ponds
- Perform sampling, monitoring, and testing required for federal, state, and local compliance
- Read, install, and repair components of the City's water distribution and wastewater collection systems
- Deliver shut-off notices and turn water service on or off as needed
- Perform daily checks of water and wastewater systems
- Assist with snow removal and other assigned duties
- Motivation and the ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Availability for rotating on-call duty within City-established response timeframes
- Ability to operate heavy equipment, light equipment, and vehicles
- Valid Class D Utah Driver's License
- Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodation
- Ability to successfully complete a post-offer background check and pre-employment drug screening
- One or more years of experience working on a municipal wastewater collection system
- State Wastewater Collections Operator certification
- State of Utah Water System Operator certification
- Other applicable water or wastewater industry certifications
- Backflow tester certification or Cross-Connection Control Program Administrator certification
- Walking, bending, kneeling, and other physical field work
- Entering confined spaces
- Operating heavy equipment and utility vehicles
- Lifting up to 50 pounds
- Rotating on-call assignments
- Outdoor work supporting utility infrastructure and snow removal operations
Pay ranges from $21.22 to $27.00 per hour, with opportunities for advancement through Levels I–III.
