Nighthawk designs and manufactures Mesh-Cellular Smart Grid AMI solutions for the utility industry. Adaptiv is a full-featured smart grid AMI solution that allows customers to easily customize their network while providing user-friendly, mobile-ready, and excellent customer service.

iHydrant provides remote pressure and temperature monitoring for wet and dry barrel hydrants.  The unique Nighthawk technology allows for incremental rollouts so cities can develop system-wide solutions as time, money and needs allow. This incremental approach attacks the areas of greatest need first and deploys the latest technology at each step of the plan.


The remote Field Services Engineer (FSE) is responsible for Nighthawk’s iHydrant™ and water distribution product lines deployments, on-going performance, product training and sales assistance

The remote FSE coordinates multiple client-facing project implementations of Nighthawk’s innovative water operation products, pro-actively monitoring and correcting field issues, writing technical hydrant specifications and supporting hydrant sales staff. This job while a remote position, requires working collaboratively with other members of the Nighthawk and hydrant teams, including product managers, engineering, and sales to ensure overall project success.

This is a remote role and will ideally be located in Colorado or Utah and will service a territory consisting of Idaho, Utah, Colorado, Montana, Wyoming, Nebraska, and Kansas. Residence of any of the territory states will be considered.

The FSE performs the major functions listed below. The position may require additional duties/responsibilities that may not be outlined below, and specific functions are subject to change.


Key Tasks & Responsibilities:

Basic troubleshooting, installation, maintenance, and repair on designated equipment.

Training of Utility staff, Distributors on installations and iHydrant™ cloud-based software system.

Identifying and participating in sales opportunities such as new hydrant specifications, sales technical presentations as part of a Hydrant sales team.

Work with Utility Engineering teams to define hydrant specifications

Maintaining daily communications with customers to ensure resolution and proper follow-up.

Utilizing the escalation process to resolve customer service issues.

Successfully manage multiple/simultaneous client-facing system deployments and customer installation project implementations.

Escalate issues to cross-functional teams in a timely manner to ensure implementation issues are addressed early

Quickly ramp-up on new hardware and software releases and product functionality to ensure successful implementation/training of these features for clients

Contribute to special internal projects as needed

Interact with clients to understand their business needs, communicate project status, and develop relationships to ensure satisfaction while minimizing project risk

Communicate feature requests effectively to Product Management to improve product.

Work with the Sales team to generate incremental revenue, write hydrant specifications around the iHydrant™ product

Train and assist utilities and distribution companies in deployments and web software

The ability to lift and carry a toolbox that can weigh up to 50 lbs.

Skills & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, a related field, or equivalent experience preferred.

Demonstrated mechanical ability, previous hydrant experience a plus.

Demonstrated technical ability with electronics.

Work with Utility Engineering a plus.

Advanced written and verbal communication skills.

Previous experience working on a team with engineers, sales, and customers.

Water Utility Experience

Travel estimate of 75%

Position is remote

Valid driver’s license and good driving record is required.

Experience diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electromechanical, and/or electronic equipment.

Experience troubleshooting and responding to customer concerns.

Proven record of being reliable and accountable for all aspects of their job.

Proficient level of computer skills including MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.

Excellent analytical, interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate complex technical issues in an easy to understand manner.

Ability to work in a fast-paced, self-directed, entrepreneurial environment.

• Resourceful, with the ability to work independently.

Strong time management skills.

Ability to adapt to changing circumstances.

Decision-making, problem resolution and creative thinking skills

Attention to detail. • Ability to multi-task activities with shifting priorities.
