Job Summary

This is a full-time, benefitted, position performing public works related duties for the City of Cedar Hills.  This position is a non-exempt position reporting directly to the Public Works Operations Manager under the direction of the Public Works Director. 

Duties
  • Performs professional and technical administrative duties; oversees the safe and economical construction of public works projects.
  • Coordinates the Public Works Department in association with the Public Works Operations Manager.
  • Helps coordinate inspections of construction projects, including residential and commercial development projects.
  • Provides counsel to the Public Works Operations Manager regarding appropriate and economical construction techniques.
  • Assists in the preparation of essential reports on daily, monthly or yearly basis including but not limited to a sanitary survey, culinary water inspections and testing, pressurized irrigation inspections and testing, storm water inspections and testing.
  • Coordinates the City’s efforts to maintain the City’s parks, trails, walkways, storm water basins, and other maintained areas.
  • Assists in the coordination of the Safety Program for the Public Works Department. Coordinates the contracting of construction or outsource services when necessary.
  • Assists the Public Works Director and Public Works Operations Manager by providing information and recommendations about rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and standards that promote good Public Works procedure within the City.
  • Represents the City on interagency projects and processes. Other public works related duties as assigned.
  • Shall supervise/direct public works employees as assigned. 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Practical, working knowledge of “best practice” public works practices and principles, particularly as they relate to municipal utilities and infrastructure.
  • Ability and skill in working as a team member in a rapidly growing community and team-oriented organization.
  • Good communication skills, both orally and written, is absolutely essential; ability to deal effectively with staff and the public.
  • Good organizational management skills.
  • Able to work extended hours, when needed, including weeknight and weekend on-call rotation
  • Ability to read construction drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to work in uncomfortable positions for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift 80 pounds safely and effectively. 
Qualifications

Required: High School degree or equivalent, Water Operator Certification, Grade II or higher (Or able to obtain within 12 months of hire)

Preferred: Wastewater Operator Certification Collection Grade II; Stormwater Grade II; Backflow Certification. Two years minimum experience in public works with a city or governmental agency
