Position Summary
Hanna Water is accepting resumes for a Water System Operator. The candidate will work closely for training with the current Water System Operator. During the training period, the candidate will be assisting in all aspects of the Water System Operator position under the supervision, skills and certification of the current Water System Operator.
Essential Functions
- Reads water meters throughout Hanna and Tabiona using current water reading system
- Reports meter readings to Hanna Water clerk in a timely manner and repeats readings as needed
- Perform installation, cleaning, operation, maintenance and repair of Hanna Water systems and supply, transmission and distribution systems
- Monitors pressures and flow of water tanks and wells
- Responds to customer complaints and turns customers water on and off
- Inspects, installs and repairs water meters of various sizes
- Coordinates meter problems with Hanna Water Clerk for billing
- Completes work orders
- Operates equipment when needed
- Monitor water lines looking for excavation, leaks, breaks or other possible issues which could pose a threat to the water lines, wells and services
- Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions
- Must be able to communicate with tact and skill when dealing with the public
- Assist in install and maintenance of fire hydrants when requested
- Take proper water samples and testing as required by Rural Water and the State of Utah
- Make necessary adjustments to chemicals
- Snow Removal and Landscape Cleanup at water Source locations
- Cross Connection Certification will be needed
This is a long-term position after proper training and certification. Pay will be commiserate with experience and certification levels. Position will stay open until filled.
Qualifications
- Must have high school diploma or GED and at least 18 years old
- Must have valid Utah Drivers License and clean driving record
- Must be certified by Utah State as a Water System Operator or become certified within 12 months of date of hire
- Must be able to pass criminal background check and pre-employment drug test
- Must live in close proximity to Hanna, Utah
Required Skills
- Ability to perform strenuous manual labor for an extended period of time
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- General knowledge of safety and procedures
- Ability to understand and follow instructions
- Past work experience in some aspect of water system operations, maintenance, construction or repairs is a plus
- Ability to learn and follow the compliance programs for water testing on time and with accuracy
- Ability to follow established operation and maintenance programs in a timely manner
- Ability to maintain effective working relationship with other Hanna Water employees and Board Members and interact with the general public in a polite and professional manner
Physical Demands
- Must be able to lift at least 100 pounds and climb onto equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. May be required to work in confined space
- Performance of job duties may require working in varied weather conditions, such as, extreme cold or hot conditions. The employee could occasionally be exposed to wet or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, and high levels of noise. The employee will also be required to work in dusty conditions.
- Operator Position does come with a company vehicle, only to be used for Hanna Water business, not for any personal use
