Join a mission-driven operations and engineering team that protects public health by ensuring safe, reliable drinking water and efficient wastewater collection for the Kearns community. As the Water & Sewer Inspector, you will lead field inspection efforts, ensuring construction quality and water quality protection on new and rehabilitated utility infrastructure. You will coordinate with contractors, provide technical guidance, resolve field conflicts, and represent KID standards daily helping build the infrastructure that will serve residents for decades.
- Inspect and verify installation of water mains, valves, hydrants, PRVs, meters, sewer mains, manholes, and service connections.
- Oversee system testing and activation including pressure tests, chlorination, flushing, bacteriological sampling, air tests, mandrel tests, and CCTV inspections.
- Ensure proper materials installation, corrosion protection, thrust restraint, and adequate utility separation.
- Conduct and participate in pre-construction coordination meetings.
- Enforce compliance with KID Standards, AWWA & APWA specifications, Utah DDW rules, and OSHA safety requirements.
- Review inspection reports, redlines, and GIS data for accuracy and completeness.
- Serve as a key field liaison between Engineering, Operations, Contractors, and Developers.
- Maintain detailed daily documentation, photos, and asset verification for capital and development projects.
- Support after-hours emergency response and shutdown coordination as needed.
- Understanding of Survey, Construction and Surveying Principles.
- High school diploma or equivalent (Associate degree or technical trade school preferred).
- Minimum 5 years of water/sewer utility construction or inspection experience.
- Strong knowledge of water distribution and wastewater collection system standards.
- Ability to read and interpret complex civil plans and profile drawings.
- Effective communication teamwork and conflict resolution skills.
- Valid Utah driver's license with good driving record.
- Ability to perform field duties: lifting 50 Ibs., confined space entry, all-weather outdoor work.
- Utah Division of Drinking Water Distribution Grade 2
- Utah DWQ Wastewater Collection Operator 2
- NASSCO PACP/MACP/LACP.
- OSHA 30 + Confined Space/Trench Safety Competent Person.
- Flagging certification.
