Full Job Description

Performs a variety of journey level, complex skilled and technical duties related to the daily maintenance, repair, and fabrication of treatment plant facilities, mechanical, electronic, electrical and motorized equipment; operates heavy equipment. 

Performs journey level mechanics and maintenance to assure proper equipment operation; performs and assures the maintenance and repair of bar screens, grit collectors, screw conveyors, raw sewage pumps, clarifiers, chlorine system, activated sludge, sludge pumps, generators, trucks and other equipment. 
Uses various hand, power, and air tools in replacing or repairing chains, sprockets, shafts, rakes, screws, sleeves, bearings, wear-rings, and other mechanical parts; tears down and rebuilds various pumps; overhauls, changes bearings, pistons, shafts, eccentrics and other pump parts; pre-loads and aligns bearings and equipment; greases and lubricates all moving parts and equipment; performs general plumbing and pipe fitting; monitors all equipment, for preventative maintenance. 
Performs complex automotive and diesel maintenance; repairs transmissions, clutches, carburetors, brakes, U-joints, drive shafts, exhaust systems, shocks, springs, engines and other parts of vehicles; performs heavy duty mechanics on heavy equipment such as sewer flush truck, televising van, loader, backhoe, dump truck, etc. 
Maintains an accurate list of equipment, prepares maintenance schedules and maintains adequate parts inventory, records all maintenance performed on all equipment and plant owned vehicles. 
Operates heavy equipment; front-end loader, backhoe; digs trenches, transports materials and waste; unloads bulk chlorine from trailers utilizing an air padding system; operates compost turner and trommel screen. 
Records instrument readings, charts and indicators. 
Performs related duties as assigned by Foreman or District Manager. 
Performs related duties as required. 

Considerable knowledge of technical treatment plant equipment and machinery and its operation maintenance and repair; plant processes; hazards and precautions associated with plant operations and processes; plant policies and procedures; automotive, diesel mechanics; electrical works, plumbing, and mechanical equipment. Working knowledge of laboratory procedures and the chemical and physical process involved in wastewater treatment. 
Considerable skill in the use of a variety of hand and power tools common to building and vehicle mechanics, i.e., electric and pneumatic tools, personal computer; calculator; phone; radio; motorized vehicles and equipment including pickup, dump truck, man lift, hydraulic press, generator, ladders, etc. 
Ability to understand and interpret blue prints, schematic drawing and maintenance manuals; make accurate decision in emergency situations; perform detailed welding; perform complex mechanical repairs on pumps and other plant equipment; communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; develop working relationships with supervisors and co-workers; supervisory techniques. 

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 
A. Graduation from high school, plus one (1) year of specialized training in wastewater treatment and collection operations; 
AND 
Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in treatment plant operations and maintenance; with extensive training in one or more of the following areas: auto or diesel mechanics, electrical maintenance and pump mechanic; 
OR 
An equivalent combination of education and experience. 3. Special Qualifications: 
Must be willing to work shift work and be on-call 24 hours per day, as scheduled by management. 

Must pass random alcohol and drug test. 
Must possess or acquire a Class A or B Utah Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-A, B). 
Must possess a Level III Maintenance Technician Certification and a Level II Wastewater Treatment Operator Certification.
