Purpose of Position

Essential function is to assist in maintaining the Districts water treatment facilities under the direction of the Lead Operator and Water Treatment Manager.  Monitors treatment plant(s) water quality at frequent intervals; Grains knowledge of the water treatment to make appropriate adjustments to chemicals and flows, as well as working with the operations staff in maintaining water quality in the treatment plant(s) and distribution system.  The operator may interface with customers, contractors and consultants, representing the needs and interest of the District.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist in operating district treatment facilities
  • Assist in prioritizing daily tasks; communicate tasks effectively to all staff members involved
  • Assist in monitoring raw and treated water flows and pumping rates as needed
  • Assist monitoring reservoir levels
  • Assist in maintaining plant facilities and grounds
  • Assist in ensuring cleanliness of treatment facilities
  • Assist in water quality sampling and laboratory analysis
  • Assist in maintaining mechanical equipment in all treatment facilities
  • Participate in all safety programs of the district 
  • Assist in gathering data for use in evaluating plant procedures and operations
  • Participates in special projects, collecting and evaluating data, and making suggestions for plant implementation
  • Performs laboratory testing of water quality through various analysis 
  • Participate in and support the districts continuous improvement programs and projects 
  • Requires on-call rotation and the ability to respond to emergency call outs (must be able to respond within 30 minutes)
  • Practices safe working procedures at all times
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications, Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid Utah Driver License
  • Ability to acquire Treatment IV certification within 24 months of employment.
  • Basic computer knowledge

  • Possess the physical and mental ability to perform necessary tasks.

  • Work is performed mostly in field settings. Considerable outdoor/indoor work is expected. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate testing instruments, heavy equipment, computers and various pieces of office equipment
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, walk, talk, or hear, use both hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position.Regularly scheduled days and hours of work are Monday through Thursday, 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, totaling 40 regular hours per week.Additional hours of work can be expected from time to time outside of the regularly scheduled working hours.May be expected to participate in on-call rotation.
