Water/Sewer Systems Maintenance Worker

The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to this position. 

• Read / trend water meters 
• Work in and around underground utilities
• Manual digging and excavating when necessary.
• Respond to water and sewer calls on weekends.
• Perform general labor. 
• Perform snow removal
• Understand and adhere to all safety policies and practices.
• Perform a wide range of tasks to maintain the operations of Public Works at the verbal or written direction of the Public Works Supervisor or Mayor.
• Assist other maintenance employees in performing repairs/maintenance of streets, water/wastewater pipelines and other facilities
• Clean and maintain equipment used in the course of work
• Maintain and repairs water system
• Perform emergency water work repairs
• Install and maintain water metering equipment
• Review blueprints, as built plans, and GIS for locations of utilities for construction.
• Maintain and repair wells, tanks, pumps, etc. 
• Ability to mark out water and sewer utilities.

Education/Experience: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma and experience in maintenance and repair work. Must be able to operate light and heavy equipment at the landfill.  Must be able to pass a drug test at any given time.  
Ability and willingness to participate in the Apprenticeship Program with Rural Water.  OJT hours are divided between required in-class training and a series of elective/required online training.  You will also be required to go through a few HR online training classes.
Must be able to get a CDL, pass a physical exam and pass a drug test if needed by the town at the towns expense.
