Meter Technician Job Description

Responsible for mechanical and technological work associated with monthly meter readings. Required to install, maintain, repair, test, and clean commercial and residential water meters on both culinary and irrigation systems. Works with contractors and customers to provide support and coordination with meter sets. Completes work orders as assigned. Works with office personnel and handles customer meter complaints and field issues. Is responsible for obtaining meter reads and checking reading accuracy during monthly billing reads. Works with billing clerk to ensure the integrity of customer bills. Records, maintains, and distributes inventory. Works and coordinates with a co-meter technician.

  • Maintaining a monthly meter inventory and the inventory of all meter department-related parts is required.
  • Required to work in the company’s on-call rotation.
  • Assists Blue Stakes Personnel.
Entry Level Work Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position.
  • Must have outstanding communication skills and be customer service oriented.
  • Excellent time management and problem-resolution skills.
  • Basic office skills and experience. Familiarity with Microsoft Office Software.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screening.
On-the-Job Requirements
  • Must pass the state Certified Water Operator Distribution IV test.
  • AMR installation and Beacon File Skills (Computer software programs used by the meter department)
Physical Requirements
  • Walking, Climbing, Bending, and Lifting (up to 50 pounds)
  • Frequent stooping and/or kneeling
  • Ability to work outdoors amid Utah’s weather conditions
  • Ability to enter and work in manholes and vaults
